The Worth of a Soul. written by Sarah Jensen of Polo, Missouri

The Worth of a Soul What is the worth of one life? For Latter-Day Saints we are easily reminded in D & C 18:10: "Remember the worth of a soul is great in the sight of God." ; and the Savior's command to us in Matthew 25:40: "...Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Is not a child one of the least of these? I know that we are all going about doing good for there is much good to be done. But today I am frustrated, today I am saddened that those around me are not stepping up to the plate. There is a child in our midst, a broken child, one with many needs and he has found his family. The Lord has found him a family. So answer me this:
If your sister, daughter, or neighbor gave birth to a child with special physical needs what would you do? If your son, brother, or nephew had a child who was deaf and needed help what would you do? Would you rally to the cause? Would you drive them, fly them, feed them, and comfort them. Would you give your blood, sweat and tears to answer their cry for help? Following this line of thought to its conclusion: Then why is it so difficult or foreign to imagine extending the same succor to a child who is now without a mother, without a country, without hope? Why is it not completely acceptable and automatic that we should offer all of our support around this family so desperate to offer just one of Heavenly Father's children a chance at freedom from pain, freedom to love. Not one of us can even begin to imagine what faces this tiny boy if he is sent back to his mother country. Not one. We are more blessed living here in this beloved nation than we can even begin to fathom. And yet, here we are sitting in the back, waiting for someone else to step forward, someone else to take the lead. Or perhaps you are one of the few hanging back judging, wondering why someone would want to take on this responsibility, even whether or not they are worthy to do so. No one of us can change the whole world overnight, but we can make a difference in this one life. Every act is like a drop of water in a pool and it travels outward, the circle growing ever larger. We can help to give a brighter future for one little boy now struggling in the fight of his life. Come help us give him that chance. The chance to make a difference.
